ANOTHER CLUE FOR MY LITTLE GIVEAWAY!... PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE THIS ONE FOR OTHER CLUES. YOU HAVE TO READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THAT POST.

THIS IS TODAY'S CLUE:

IN FAIRY FOLKLORE, FAIRIES DID NOT LIKE CERTAIN ELEMENTS.  THE OBJECT, WHICH I TOOK A PHOTO OF REFLECTED LIGHT, IN THE OLDEN DAYS, USED TO BE MADE FROM THIS ELEMENT.

AND FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GUESSED A MIRROR,...I AM SORRY...FAIRIES ARE VERY VAIN.  IT IS NOT A MIRROR.

I WILL KEEP ADDING CLUES UNTIL SOMEONE GUESSES THE RIGHT OBJECT. AND YES THE OBJECT IS VERY SHINY, AS IT REFLECTS LIGHT QUITE WELL.  QUITE IRONICALLY, FAIRIES LOVE SEEING THEIR OWN REFLECTIONS AND TODAY THEY WOULD PROBABLY USE THE SHINY OBJECT IF THEY COULD NOT FIND A MIRROR TO LOOK AT THEMSELVES AS THIS OBJECT IS NO LONGER MADE FROM THE ELEMENT OF THE PAST WHICH THEY ABHORRED.

Thank you one and all!

CATS, FLOWERS, AND REFLECTED LIGHT PHOTOS and a little giveaway!

TODAY, I AM GOING TO SHARE PHOTOS OF CATS, FLOWERS, AND REFLECTED LIGHT AROUND OUR HOME.

FOR THE GIVEAWAY, PLEASE READ THE POST TO THE END ABOUT THE IMAGES OF REFLECTED LIGHT.

HERE IS ANOTHER CLUE: IN FAIRY LORE, THIS OBJECT WOULD HAVE REPELLED FAIRIES AS IT USED TO BE MADE FROM AN OLD ELEMENT WHICH THEY DO NOT LIKE.

I WILL BE POSTING CLUES DAILY, UNTIL SOMEONE OR SEVERAL PEOPLE GUESS THE OBJECT WHICH IS CREATING THE REFLECTED LIGHT IMAGE.

I WILL BE GIVING AWAY FABRIC FLOWER BROACHES, MAYBE WITH BITS OF VINTAGE LACE AND BUTTONS AFFIXED TO THE BROACH.

THIS IS JUST AN IDEA OF WHAT THE FLOWER BROACHES WILL LOOK LIKE.  BUT PROBABLY WITH MORE VINTAGE LACE AND MORE BUTTONS.  JUST SOMETHING FUN TO GIVEAWAY!

GOOD LUCK WITH THE GUESSING!

I DO LOVE CATS, AND A NEIGHBOR'S CAT LOVES STAYING IN OUR YARD AS WE DON'T HAVE ANY DOGS TO BOTHER CATS.

I BELIEVE OUR NEIGHBOR'S CAT'S NAME IS ZOEY.  I ADORE ORANGE TABBY CATS!

THIS KITTY CAME TO OUR YARD FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN I DIDN'T SEE HIM FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, THEN I SAW HIM DOWN THE STREET LAST WEEK.  I THINK HIS PEOPLE MOVED AND LEFT HIM BEHIND.  HE WAS A REALLY, SWEET CAT TOO!

HERE IS ZOEY AGAIN.  HE HAS SUCH A FUN PERSONALITY. I AM TAKING AN ONLINE WATERCOLOR CAT PORTRAIT CLASS WITH MIRIAM SCHULMAN AT HER NING SITE 'THE INSPIRATION PLACE' WHICH THE LINK IS ON MY SIDEBAR.  SHE ALSO OFFERS A VARIETY OF OTHER WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPS.  PLEASE CHECK OUT HER NING SITE.   SO I AM TAKING PHOTOS OF CATS AS REFERENCE POINTS FOR MY CAT PORTRAITS.  I HAVE LEARNED THAT UNLESS A CAT IS LYING DOWN, THEY ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO CAPTURE AS THEY LIKE TO MOVE AROUND A LOT!

FLOWERS ARE SUCH A LOVELY EXPRESSION OF NATURE, SO I HAVE ADDED A FEW PHOTOS FROM OUR YARD.

SOME OF MY SUCCULENTS IN BLOOM.  THE COLORS OF THE BLOOMS ARE DEEP WITH RICH BRILLIANCE.

THIS SUCCULENT IS CALLED 'BABY TOES' AND HAD RATHER A LARGE BLOSSOM FOR SUCH SMALL SUCCULENTS.

EVERY SPRING I HAVE VOLUNTEER VIOLETS WHICH COME UP.  THEY HAVE SUCH A WONDERFULLY HEADY SWEET FRAGRANCE.
I BELIEVE THIS IS 'PEACE' WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ROSES.  I LOVE THE PALE YELLOW WITH THE BLUSH OF LIGHT PINK AROUND THE EDGES.  THERE IS AN OPAQUE GLASSWARE CALLED 'BURMESSE WARE' WHICH HAS THE LOVELY YELLOW FROSTED LOOK WITH A PINK BLUSH ON AROUND THE EDGES.  JUST A BEAUTIFUL COMBINATION OF THE TWO COLORS.

THIS BRIGHTLY FLOWERED PLANT IS CALLED 'THE BIRD OF PARADISE'.  IT IS NOT THE TYPICAL BIRD OF PARADISE PLANT WITH THE WAXY, HUGE FLOWERS, BUT A NEWER FLOWERING SHRUB.

HERE IS A DAY LILY/IRIS WHICH DECIDED TO BLOOM PROFUSELY THIS SPRING. IT REMINDS ME OF A PASSION FLOWER AND I AM SURE THE PETALS HAVE A RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE TO IT AS DOES THE PASSION FLOWER BEING ATTRIBUTED TO THE PASSIONS OF CHRIST.

ONE OF MY ROSE BUSHES GIFTS ME WITH FOUR ROSES ON ONE STEM EACH YEAR. QUITE BEAUTIFUL!

REFLECTED LIGHT CAN BE SUCH AN AMAZING SUBJECT TO PHOTOGRAPH SO I HAVE ADDED SOME AMAZING PHOTOS OF HOW LIGHT CAN BE REFLECTED FROM DIFFERENT OBJECTS.

I AM FASCINATED WITH TAKING PHOTOS OF REFLECTED LIGHT.  THIS WAS TAKEN IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM WHEN THE SUN WAS AT A LOW POINT IN THE WEST AND WAS ACTUALLY REFLECTED OFF A PLASTIC TRANSPARENT TWO-LITER BOTTLE FULL OF WATER.
I LIKE TO LOOK FOR HIDDEN IMAGES IN REFLECTED LIGHT, AS,  IN THIS ONE, I SEE A FACE ON THE LEFT SIDE, AND A FACE LOOKING DOWNWARD. THE IMAGES KIND OF SHARE THE SAME CHIN. QUITE FASCINATING, WITH THE REFLECTED ORBS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIGHT.

MORE REFLECTED LIGHT THROUGH A BURLAP SHADE IN OUR DINING AREA, REFLECTED AGAINST A WOODEN SLIDING DOOR, WITH THE SUNSHINE AGAIN COMING LOW IN THE WEST AT THE CLOSE OF THE DAY. THE BLUE REFLECTION AT THE CENTER TOP IS ALSO AN AMAZING BIT OF COLOR WHICH I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE IT CAME FROM. I DID NOT USE MY FLASH IN ANY OF THESE REFLECTED LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHS.

I WALKED INTO ONE OF OUR ROOMS THE OTHER LATE AFTERNOON AND SAW THIS AMAZING REFLECTED LIGHT PATTERN ON THE WALL.  IT REMINDED ME OF AN ANGEL OR SHRINE OR BOTH.  IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT THE OBJECT WAS WHICH REFLECTED THE LIGHT, I WILL SEND YOU A LITTLE GIVEAWAY SURPRISE!  JUST LEAVE ME A COMMENT AS TO WHAT YOU THINK THE OBJECT IS.  PLEASE LEAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS SO I CAN CONTACT YOU IF YOU GUESS THE CORRECT OBJECT. THIS PHOTO ALSO HAS A BLUE EERIE LIGHT ON THE LOWER RIGHT, WHICH WAS NOT APPARENT WHEN I SNAPPED THE PHOTO WITHOUT A FLASH.

JUST MY WAY OF THANKING MY FAITHFUL BLOG FOLLOWERS WITH A SWEET GIVEAWAY GIFT. TRY TO GUESS WHAT OBJECT CREATED THE REFLECTED LIGHT IN THE VERY LAST PHOTO.  IF MORE THAN ONE PERSON GUESSES CORRECTLY, I WILL GIVE SOMETHING TO EACH PERSON WHO GUESSES CORRECTLY.

I WILL BE ADDING CLUES DAILY SO IT'S NOT SO HARD TO GUESS THE OBJECT MAKING THE REFLECTED IMAGE OF LIGHT.

TODAY'S CLUE IS:  WOMEN THROUGHOUT THE AGES USED THIS OBJECT.

THIS GIVEAWAY WILL BE LEFT UP UNTIL SOMEONE OR MORE THAN SOMEONE, GUESSES THE ANSWER.

I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THESE PHOTOS AS MUCH AS I ENJOYED DOING THE PHOTOGRAPHY.

MIKE'S PASTRIES IN NORTH END BOSTON AND OTHER SITES...

NO, I DON'T LIVE IN BOSTON, NOR DO I LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS....BUT MY SISTER AND HER HUSBAND AND LOVELY FAMILY LIVED IN THE TOWN OF PEPPERELL, MASS. FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS.  SO...THAT MEANS, I WAS ABLE TO VISIT BOSTON A COUPLE OF TIMES WHEN I WOULD FLY OUT FROM CALIFORNIA, DURING THE SUMMER TO VISIT MY SISTER.

YES, WE WALKED THE BOSTON COMMON, WHICH IS SUCH A LOVELY PARK.  ANYWHERE WE TURNED THERE WERE WEDDING COUPLES HAVING THEIR PHOTOS TAKEN. AND BOATS THAT LOOKED LIKE SWANS ON THE MAN-MADE POND.

Swan boats for your riding pleasure

ONE OF THE ENTRANCES TO THE UNDERGROUND PARKING IS ON CHARLES STREET

WE PARKED BENEATH THE COMMON, IN THE UNDERGROUND PARKING WHICH IS FOUR STORIES OF CARS PARKED, BENEATH THE  GROUND.  IT WAS ACTUALLY KIND OF CLAUSTROPHOBIC TO ME, AND I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET OUT INTO THE OPEN AIR.

And yes, there were all sorts there, seeing as it was Boston.  We even saw some 'real' witches and wizards, dressed very much live the ones in the Harry Potter movies.

Professor McGonegal?

The Boston Common has a Halloween Costume Event

We saw the real Mother Goose's headstone in a graveyard, very near to where Benjamin Franklin was also buried.  The headstones were so intriguing to look at. We also saw Paul Revere's house, still standing, near the famous tree of the Sons of Liberty square.

Mother Goose's grave.  We all know her poetry which has followed us into the 21st century.  The motif of the skull and wings is still very popular to use in artwork today.

BUT BACK TO MIKE'S PASTRIES...

THIS IS MIKE'S PASTRIES ON A PRETTY NORMAL AFTERNOON...PACKED TO THE OUTSIDE WITH LINES OF PEOPLE.

It was a Saturday evening, after we had eaten Dim Sum in a Chinese restaurant, that we decided to go to the Italian District to Mike's Pastries.  Pastries of every imaginable description.

Rows and rows of pastries of all descriptions!

THE MOST DECADENT CAKES

The line was out the door, in fact it was actually, four lines out the door which led inside to the back of the store where the cash registers were.  BUT, you had to get in the door FIRST to decide what your purchases were, THEN, get back INTO the line, which I think we waited a half an hour to make our purchases.

CANNOLI'S OF EVERY DESCRIPTION AND MELT IN YOUR MOUTH CREAM PUFFS

I purchased a slice of to die for carrot cake, with walnuts, coconut, and pineapple (no raisins), also a cannoli, a wonderful confection of a pastry full of decadent custard type filling with whipped cream, which they have no end of varieties of cannoli.  Also, what they call a lobster tail (a pastry) also similar to the cannoli, but BIGGER!  And I believe a slice of the real thing New York Cheese Cake (no 'fake' graham cracker crust invented by the 1960's generation) no, it had the flaky pastry 'crust' which melts in your mouth and does not take away from the flavor of the cheese cake.  So, we took home our confections and had tiny pieces all around of each dessert.  It was divine!

They have ice cream too, and Italian Gelato.  This guy looks like he is saying 'Go get your own piece of cake! This is mine, all mine!'

We went into the Commonwealth Book Store five minutes before they were closing.  I could have spent hours in there...probably better that I didn't as I probably would have come out penniless!

Books, and books, and books, and a basement full of books too.

Anyway, this was my 'blast from the past' being there seven years ago, and my sister and family have since moved to Minnesota, far more fierce winters than Massachusetts, perhaps, with the exception of this years' winter on the east coast.

So, if you are ever in Boston , there is lots to see!

I DO LOVE BLOGGING!....

HELLO MY DEAR BLOGGERS FRIENDS...

Even though I may not blog as often as I would wish to, I do enjoy viewing other artists, writers, ning sites, doll making blogs and tutorial sites which there are so many 'out there' on the internet, you could spend hours learning new creative techniques until you turned 100!

EXPLORE  EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR OWN JOURNEY

Ah...but we don't have that much free time to use in everyday life.  So, we take snatches of this here, and snatches of that over there, using Youtube, and ning sites, also going to Etsy to buy beautifully created items the world over.

DREAM A LITTLE DREAM

I love Pinterest with its unlimited source of photos of every kind of blissful day dreams.  There are dolls of every sort, vintage, handmade, steampunk, ball joint dolls, and I drool over reams and reams of fairy tale dreams wishing I could someday be as creative as the most professional doll maker, or jeweler, or potter, or painter, the day dreams are never ending.

AND THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

So, I began collecting dolls from many talented doll makers, which has made part of my dream come true.

BLACK-EYED SUSIE DOLL ON LEFT, AND TWO DOLLS CREATED BY KAREN MILSTEIN

DOLL IN THE MIDDLE BY FILIGREE, LEMONADE FAIRY

MORE SWEET DOLLS IN MY COLLECTION. I HAVE SOLD QUITE A FEW OF THESE DOLL BUT I HAVE SWEET MEMORIES AND LOVELY PHOTOS.

AS YOU CAN TELL THE DOLLS ARE AS UNIQUE AS THE INDIVIDUAL ARTIST.  MY OWN FRENCH STYLE MARIONETTE DOLL IN THE MIDDLE WITH HER TURQUOISE BODICE.  VALENTINA BY JANICE PETTY ON FAR RIGHT IN THE STYLE OF A QUEEN ANNE DOLL.  ELOISE, A FAIRY TALE DOLL ON THE FAR RIGHT BY JASMOON BUTTERFLY IN ENGLAND.

AN ALICE OR TWO, A CHESHIRE CAT (MADE BY ME) A PIG (FROM THE SCENE IN THE DUTCHESS AND THE COOK IN ALICE IN WONDERLAND) AND A RABBIT.

A PEAK INTO MY DOLL CHINA CABINET

A VINTAGE RED RIDING HOOD MY HUSBAND GAVE TO ME FOR MY BIRTHDAY LAST YEAR.  SHE IS SO CHARMING!
THIS IS NOT THE DOLL I HAVE, BUT I PURCHASED ONE VERY SIMILAR TO HER BY BAGGARAGGS.  MINE IS CALLED 'BOTANICA FEY' AND A STORY COMES WITH THE DOLL.  ON MY LEFT SIDEBAR IS THE LINK TO BAGGARAGGS DOLLS BY ROBIN RIDENER.  WHAT A TALENTED GAL SHE IS!

I DO ENJOY CREATING MIXED MEDIA ART, SO WHEN MY DAUGHTER HAD OUR FIRST GRANDDAUGHTER, I FOUND ONE OF MY DAUGHTER'S VINTAGE 'LITTLE MERMAID' PUZZLES AND I GLUED IT ON TO A CANVAS I HAD PAINTED AND ADDED SEA SHELLS AND YARN WHICH LOOKED LIKE SEA WEED, AS MY GRANDDAUGHTER'S ROOM IS DECORATED IN THE  'LITTLE MERMAID MOTIF.

I have a friend who said, she admires things in stores, and if she bought and brought home everything she has a delight in, she would never have room for all of it.  So, with that in mind, I get my 'fill' of day dreams and I go to Yahoo and type in a search word such as 'handmade doll images' and Wallah! There before my very eyes are photos and photos of mouthwatering confections, which is marvelous as many of those dolls are available on Etsy.

I DO ENJOY COLLECTING VINTAGE LINENS AND I COULDN'T RESIST THIS ONE I FOUND IN AN ANTIQUE COLLECTIBLE STORE.  IT IS DEFINITELY MARIE ANTOINETTE IN STYLE

And there are the new creators who post their new work on Etsy or on Ebay, who join in the throng of entrepreneurs vying for the buyers of Wonderland to become spellbound by their delicate wares.

MORE OF MY VINTAGE LACE FINDS

It is the comradeship of kindred spirits which drew me to create my own blog just for the purpose of encouraging other creative souls. And I have enjoyed every minute of it!  And I hope to continue to do so, as it is such a wonderful vision to awaken the creative genius which resides in every one of us.

PLEASE BE SURE TO VIEW MY SIDE BARS ON EITHER SIDE AS THERE IS A WORLD OF CREATIVITY LINKS TO EXPLORE, NING SITES TO JOIN, ETSY ARTISTS TO VIEW, AND OTHER BLOGGERS WHOM I HAVE COME TO DEEPLY ENJOY AS FRIENDS!

I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THIS POST.  IT'S JUST A PEAK INTO MY WORLD OF CREATIVITY AND JOY!

BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL!

IN MEMORY OF JOANNA PIEROTTI OF MOSS HILL STUDIO

YES, DEAR KINDRED SPIRIT ARTISTS AND FRIENDS.  ONE OF OUR MOST BELOVED MIXED MEDIA ARTISTS HAS PASSED AWAY THIS LAST WEEK FROM HER FIGHT WITH CANCER.

JOANNA PIEROTTI
I was first aware of JoAnnA Pierotti's Moss Hill Studio, when I came across one of her online workshops for her Bella Art Doll Workshop in the fall of 2007.  I then, promptly misplaced the link to the site, and her blog name, and couldn't find her for another year, at which time I did enroll in that particular class in the fall of 2008. Joanna was the one who inspired me to continue with other mixed media online workshops from various artists.  Her professional business name was spelled JoAnnA.  She really appreciated it when people would use the capital letters for her name in that format.

She and her husband Ron had lived in Volcano, California and because of health problems for both she and her husband, as he had had ongoing surgeries for a brain tumor, Joanna's art work was what was sustaining their income. At that time, in 2008, Joanna was in remission from breast cancer, but recently, in the last six months of her life she had a blood test revealing she had stage 5 cancer in many areas of her body, and was receiving chemo and radiation treatments. A few years ago they had moved to Arizona near her husband Ron's brother and sister-in-law.  Ron is in good hands but the loss of Joanna will be difficult to bear. May God comfort their hearts at this time.

THIS IS THE BELLA ART DOLL I MADE IN HER ONLINE CLASS.

THIS IS THE FRONT VIEW OF THE MIXED MEDIA DOLL. THIS WORKSHOP HAS NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR A FEW YEARS.  THE BASE WAS A WOODEN BLOCK WHICH WAS EMBELLISHED WITH BROKEN CHINTZ CHINA PIECES GLUED ON WITH E-6000. A LONG NAIL WAS NAILED FROM UNDERNEATH THE CENTER OF THE BLOCK OF WOOD AND A VINTAGE SPINDLE WAS PLACED OVER THE NAIL AND WAS GLUED TO THE TOP OF THE BASE. THEN THE SPOOL WHICH WAS PREVIOUSLY WRAPPED WITH COTTON THREAD, WAS PAINTED WITH ACRYLIC PAINT, AND A MADAME ALEXANDER VINTAGE DOLLY HEAD WAS GLUED TO THE TOP OF THE SPOOL.  FROM THERE THE FACE WAS PAINTED, THE EYELIDS GLUED OPEN AND THE ENTIRE FACE WAS PAINTED FLESH COLOR.  THEN THE EYES WERE REPAINTED ONTO THE FACE, A LIGHT PAINTING OF PINK WAS PAINTED ON THE CHEEKS FOR BLUSH, AND TINY ROSES WERE PAINTED UPON THE FOREHEAD.  YARN WAS GLUED ONTO THE HEAD WHERE THE HAIR HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REMOVED. THE YARN HAIR (I USED EYELASH YARN) AND VINTAGE FLOCKED TINY FLOWERS WERE GLUED ONTO THE HAIR.  I USED A TINY CROCHETED NUT CUP AND CUT OFF THE HANDLE WHICH I GLUED AROUND THE NECK OF THE DOLL, AND THE 'CUP' WAS USED AS A BONNET.  I ADDED OTHER CROCHETED EMBELLISHMENTS FOR THE FRONT AND BACK OF THE DOLL AND ADDED A HUGE SUNFLOWER BUTTON ON THE BACK SIDE.  THE FACE WAS GLAZED WITH DECO ART GLOSS GLAZE.

FOR THE BACK SIDE OF THE DOLL I ALSO USED A VINTAGE CROCHETED DOILY WHICH I HAD FIRST SATURATED IN AQUA BLUE ACRYLIC PAINT (AND THE HAT TOO) AND THEN SQUEEZED OUT THE EXCESS AND LET THOSE PIECES DRY AND THEN GLUED THEM ONTO THE PIECE.  I DID USE A VINTAGE CROCHETED DAISY AND GLUED A METAL BUTTON TO THE BACK OF THE DOLL.
THIS IS THE SWEET ANGEL MIXED MEDIA PIECE I WAS ABLE TO ACQUIRE FROM JOANNA.  HER CREATIONS ARE TIMELESS AND BEAUTIFUL.

AND HERE IS ONE OF JOANNA'S GLORIOUS (SWOON!) NECKLACES WHICH I WILL CHERISH AND WEAR IN MEMORY OF HER WONDERFUL LIFE FULL OF CREATIVITY.

AND ONE OF JOANNA'S BEAUTIFULLY CREATED ENCAUSTIC BOTTLES.  I WILL CHERISH THIS SWEET CREATION SHE MADE.  I WAS UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKSHOP FOR THIS CLASS.

SHE IS NOW AT REST AND AT PEACE IN HEAVEN WITH OTHER KINDRED SPIRIT SOULS.

I FEEL VERY BLESSED TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO BE TAUGHT ONLINE BY ONE OF THE MOST SELF-SACRIFICING MIXED MEDIA ARTISTS.

MAY JOANNA'S LOVED ONES FIND COMFORT AT THIS TIME OF THEIR LOSS.

TO VIEW JOANNA'S TIMELESS CREATIONS GO TO YAHOO (OR ANOTHER SEARCH) AND TYPE IN: MOSS HILL STUDIO DOLL IMAGES
